Library Services & Rules

Borrowing Policy

Faculty, Staff and Students of Oman Medical College may borrow books and other specified resources from the Library. Maximum number of items that can be borrowed by any student is three and the loan period is limited to three weeks. Books borrowed should be returned to the circulation desk on or before the due date stamped in the book. Books may be renewed for a further period of three weeks provided that it is not reserved by other members of the library.

  Reference Access:

 Reference materials are for use within the Library area only. They cannot be borrowed nor allowed to be taken out of the library.

 Overdue Notice and Fines

 Please check your mail regularly for overdue return notices. Students will be charged an overdue fine of 100 bizas per working day per item for the first week and 200 bizas per working day per item beyond this period, in case of late return of books. If the books are not returned within 15 days from the due date, the borrowing privileges of the member are likely to be suspended till the dues are cleared

 Journals:

 Journals will be for reference only and cannot be borrowed.

 Literature search:

 Selective dissemination of Information and Current awareness services are provided in the Library. Faculty and the Students are encouraged to utilize these services. Help sessions are provided in the Library regarding

  • Choosing the best databases and formulating effective search strategies.
  • Electronic Journals available on the Net
  • Utilizing web search engines and subject gateways to find quality information on the web.

 

Interlibrary Loan:  

OMC can arrange interlibrary loan for Books from Royal Hospital Medical Library and SQU Medical Library. It is also possible to arrange journal articles from GCC Countries Medical Libraries, SQU and Royal Hospital Medical Library. Members interested in availing these services may contact the Library.

Photocopying:

Photocopying facility is available in the Library. Photocopy cards can be purchased from the Circulation desk.
